KMC link every time even if they're single-use - after a pin-related niggle (accidentally installed from the wrong side and the nose of the pin acted to push the chain down a ring on the rear cogs - change down to the cog it was trying to push it to, and it did the same again... - resolved with some light filing of the nose of the pin) You won't notice a performance difference when you shift from Shimano to KMC. I have not found the shifting to be improved over a Connex, KMC 11XL or even SRAM PC-X1, XX1, or RED 22 or 1170.
