Looking back on it now I enjoyed the exuberance of the episode, the mix of sci fi and light humour, so different from Series 8 (the most recently transmitted series at the time of writing this.) Once again she is rescued by The Doctor; he explains that they are dealing with Autons; plastic beings controlled by the Nestene Consciousness which is trying to take over Earth. I love how Clive showed Rose pictures about who this mysterious person is, how he always has death as a companion, and how he thinks the Doctor is immortal. Doctor Who ex-showrunner Russell T Davies has announced that Rose: The Prequel is coming to the official BBC Doctor Who website later this week.. This episode brought us the magic that is Christoper Eccleston's Doctor, and he never disappoints. -Sets are well down, it's filmed in Cardiff but it does convince me it's London quiet well. 1 out of 1 found this helpful. Plus more surprise to come. A movie in 1996 and various audio adventures were all that bridged the long gap until Russell T. Davies thankfully resurrected the TV series in 2005. We got to see Chris smile, a definite plus. "I'll be tweeting along, twitter handle to be named on Thursday! Picture the scene: a mountainous alien landscape. personality. Yeah. Come along, Rose, come along!". If memory serves during the initial transmission there was a slight interruption that cut to Graham Norton. Overall: 7.5/10 I knew I was going to love Camille Coduri, Jackie was a fantastic character, so much fun. I am writing this on the 14 of June 2019, I've gone on this pilgrimage to watch all of new who to try to see why I like the show as the last few seasons have left me disillusioned with the show, so, here's season 1 episode 1 - rose Going back and watching this episode again, I couldn't stop smiling in the last few minutes when the Doctor flies away in the Tardis and then comes back to pick up Rose. Christopher Ecclestone had to be good to do justice to the many predecessors he had but he manages it in a way that his Doctor can only describe as "FANTASTIC!!!" Was this review helpful? As a normal episode of Doctor Who, Rose is a 7/10; but as an introduction episode to both the characters and the world of the Doctor, it couldn't have been any better. That being said this episode has a cheesy sort of charm and an excellent sense of humour. The Tardis lands, and out steps the Doctor, a middle-aged man in a Victorian frock coat, and Rose, his companion from Earth. How strange it is to review this so long after it aired, especially as I watched it at the time. In 2020, Davies released a 21st chapter, following on from page 197, where this novelisation ends. When Doctor Who started back in 1963, I don't think many believed it would last until 1989 before the BBC decided to put it out of its misery. If you are planning on skipping a few episodes, make sure you watch this one. However, on the next occasion, a frantic Jackie slapped the Doctor hard across the face; instead of the few hours away that was planned, the Doctor’s TARDIS trip had turned into a worrying year-long disappearance of Rose on Earth.
